Universal Fiber Optics manufactured, supplied and installed bespoke fiber optic lighting systems in the recently refurbished Weston Park Museum, Sheffield. The fiber optic lighting was designed and specified by Paul Ruffles of Lighting Design and Technology.
The majority of the displays and display cases were constructed on site, and UFO had to work closely with the main contractor, Mivan of Northern Ireland, to make the lighting installations possible.
Most of the fiber optic end-fittings are color coded with the interior linings of the cases; the fittings included directional and focussable downlights, tube lights, gantries and 90 degree mirror fittings, lighting anything from arctic animals to local Sheffield artifacts.
Illuminators varied from 100w tungsten halogen to 150w metal halide and 150w metal halide DMX, a total in excess of 70 illuminators.
